What is Mindfulness
It all begins with an idea.
Do you feel like you are bombarded with constant negative news, stress, to-do lists, and never feeling like you are truly at peace? Mindfulness can truly help with these feelings of being overwhelmed and stressed.
Mindfulness is often tied to meditation. This does not need to be the case. Mindfulness is a mindset and practice that can be used every day at any moment. Even in the most chaotic environment, you can practice mindfulness.
Mindfulness is the practice of being fully aware and present in the moment, without judgment. It's about tuning in to your thoughts, feelings, and physical sensations without getting lost in them. Essentially, it’s about accepting things as they are, rather than how we think they should be.
This practice can take some time to learn but once it is learned and used regularly, it can help tremendously. Living in the here and now is essential to inner peace. Every client that I have worked with has struggled to be present, in the moment, not consumed with worry of the future or the pain of the past.
Mindfulness is the opposite of control. Too many of us have the need to control our environment because if we are not in control, the outcomes are scary and the unknown is even more scary. Living in the space of control only leads to more stress, more anxiety, and more depression because there are too many variables in life that we simply cannot control.
Being present in this exact moment, taking note of your thoughts as just a thought, your feeling as just a feeling, and engaging in what your body is currently feeling can be so much peace.
